Namely, during the race, sometime after the start of the race, Kerr was running and minding his own business when suddenly he got to a running 9-year-old boy who was struggling with his running. As the boy put it, he couldn’t keep up with his friends who made up his running group. So, the 9-year-old was honest with Kerr and told him that he didn’t know what he’s supposed to do. Boden Fuchs, the 9-year-old boy who was falling behind his running group, asked the Marine if he could run next to him and help him finish the race!

The plan for Kerr, the nineteen-year-old Marine, went to the marathon in order to test out his boundaries and see his level of endurance. He even took his gear and boots with him. But, with the kind heart that he has, he decided that he needed to slow down and help his little friend cross the finish line. He suddenly felt that running with his marine colleagues wasn’t that important, he can compete with them every other day, and this is not an opportunity that he would get again. He felt like competition with his colleagues wasn’t really important to him at that moment.
