Harry Potter Writer Donates So Much Money To Charity That She Drops Off The Billionaire’s List
Today’s article we will be talking about one of the most famous writers in our generation, and for some people, in history. She has written one of the most read and successful franchises ever and created books, movies, and an amusement park. Yes, we are talking about J.K. Rowling and her franchise, Harry Potter. With this book, J.K. Rowling has gotten up on the Forbes Billionaire List, and in recent times, it has been pretty quiet from the author of Harry Potter. Well, now, articles are popping up on her left, right, and center. This is because this famous big-hearted author has begun donating lots of her earnings to the people and organizations in need.
All of the books from the Harry Potter Franchise that J.K. Rowling wrote took over the world. And today, these books have millions upon millions of real fans that would do anything for a new book. All of these readers brought the author to a point where she was actually richer than the queen. But, as most of the Harry Potter fanatics already know, all of this didn’t come easy for J.K. Rowling. In fact, in the beginning, she was struggling. She was a single mother from Edinburgh. She was living on state benefits. She was writing, and writing, up until the point when she published the first book of the franchise “Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone” back in 1997. This was when her life took a turn for the better.
As soon as her first book started taking off, she started gaining more and more wealth. At one point, in 2004 she accumulated so much wealth that she got on Forbes’ billionaire list. She was up there with some of the most famous businessmen, oil tycoons, entrepreneurs, etc. But, her wealth quickly started degrading once she decided to start giving money away to charity. This made her drop off the list.
In an interview, she even mentioned that she felt like she needed to give all of that money away because of the fact that she was getting far more than she actually needed.
She is a part of hundreds of organizations, and she had created some of her own charities. Lumos is one of those charities, and through it, she helps orphans find their forever home and families. Another one is the Volant Charitable Trust, where she helps Scottish women and children in need. Some of the charity organizations in which Rowling contributes are One Parent Families, Shannon Trust, Dyslexia Action, and many others. People estimate that she has given away $160 million to charity.
We can clearly see how big-hearted J.K. Rowling actually is. And I love seeing billionaires opening up their bags and giving away their wealth, wealth that they might never use. Thousands upon thousands of people have probably benefited from Rowling’s charities, and in the name of everybody that benefited from her kind heart, we thank her!
